Tick Bite Prevention Week

26th March–1st April is tick bite prevention week

Ticks can carry harmful infections that can be transmitted to humans. If you are taking part in outdoor activities or simply enjoy being in the countryside, or parks and gardens where wildlife is present, you may be at risk from tick bites. As the weather gets warmer, people begin to spend more time outdoors and ticks start to become more active.

Many people are unaware that British ticks can carry and transmit a number of diseases to all manner of wildlife, livestock, domestic pets and humans. Other people have grown up in situations where they have been in regular contact with ticks but perhaps feel that, so far, they have only been a mild irritation and are nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, various combined factors now mean that we are at increased risk of contracting a tick-borne infection.

There is no need to panic about ticks but an awareness of their presence, the simple precautions that can be taken against tick bites, and how to remove them safely, is key to avoid contracting tick-borne diseases.

The Tick Bite Prevention Week website gives lots of useful information on avoiding bites and the safe removal of ticks; it’s well worth looking through this site before heading out into the countryside.

Nominate us!

The Asda in Alloa now have a Community noticeboard and they are asking shoppers to nominate a local group to receive a grant of £200. We are asking all our families and friends to please nominate Clackmannan Scout Group.  If we’re successful, we would intend to spend the money on replacing the dingy brown crockery in our lovely refurbished kitchen. Please fill out one of the forms in store and encourage your friends to do the same. Thank you.

Dates for your diary

Beavers’ Easter Fun Day on Saturday 31st March
At the Barrwood Campsite from 11.30–1.30pm. For directions please visit their website.
The Beavers should bring a picnic lunch, decorated egg and/or an Easter bonnet. Please return your slips to Lorna by Wednesday 21st March. To keep your child safe, we may need help from parents, please indicate on the reply slip if you are able to help.

Area Bag Pack on Saturday 17th March
The Scouts and older Cubs will be taking part in the Area bag pack at Morrisons supermarket in Stirling. Parents, please make sure that you have let the leaders know which time slot your Scout/Cub can help at. Uniform is to be worn.

Census fees are now overdue.
If you have still to pay for your child’s membership/insurance fee, please arrange this as soon as possible. We are one of the few groups who subsidise this cost so it is important that everyone pays their share. If you need more time to pay, please let your child’s leader know as soon as possible.

Race Night
The Hall Committee are organising another Race Night for adults, which is likely to be held on Friday 21st September. A good time was had by all who attended the last one (especially Colin!) and money was raised to help fund the costs of running the hall. If you would like to be involved with the organisation of this, please speak to Lorna or any of the other leaders.
