Update and District Camp news

District Camp: Numbers for the District Camp are now overdue, you should have received a text from your child’s leader about this. Can you please reply either way, whether you have returned the attached form or not. Forms and money are required on Tues/Weds please. More details about the camp are below.

Easter Egg Hunt: Unfortunately, due to work being carried out at Barrwood Campsite, The Easter Egg hunt due to take place on 29 March has had to be cancelled.

District Commissioner visit: Beavers will be having a visit from our District Commissioner on Wednesday 12 March.  Most of the children will have met Anne previously at District events, she will be visiting to see how we are getting along.

District Bag Pack: We have been let down by the supermarket where the District Bag Pack was due to take place on 22 March, and this will not be going ahead at that time. District are looking to try and get a further date in April or September instead. Any parent who works in a local supermarket and can help us arrange this type of fundraiser should speak to one of the Leaders please.

Welcome back

Happy New Year to all our families!

Hopefully all those who were at the panto on Saturday had a wonderful time. The children were all very well behaved, thank you.

On Wednesday 22 January, Beavers and Cubs will be visiting the Ochil Mountain Rescue Team base at Fishcross. Children should be dropped off there at 7pm and picked up at 8.30pm.

  • Please remember that Census fees are now due. If you have concerns about paying the full amount in one, please speak to Eion when you come in to check your child’s details. In future we hope to be able to provide information by email in addition to the existing letters, texts. Make sure you follow this blog to receive notification of all the updates.

A review of current practice has highlighted difficulties around cash being held on our premises. We therefore ask that as many of you as possible pay subs by monthly standing order; forms are available from leaders. If you do not pay by monthly standing order, we must ask you to pay monthly in advance, the amount being £6.95. As we have to plan and provide activities for all the children each week, unfortunately no refunds can be made if your child does not attend.

Some of you may know that we have lost two leaders recently – Paul Grant and Kenny Wilson – who both felt they could no longer help out, and will be a great loss. We desperately need help to allow us to provide quality sessions for all groups as we have two leaders who work shifts, one who could be on-call, one who has to work abroad at short notice, one with a medical condition that can flare up at any time and one who is retired and likes his holidays!! If we don’t get additional support, sessions may have to be cancelled at short notice. Please let the leaders know what you can do to help us…remember it is your children who benefit. A helpers’ rota is available, if you can, add your name to it please.

Beavers will be attending a Mad Scientist day on Saturday 1 February from 2pm – 4pm in Menstrie Scout Hall. The cost for this is £2, and the Cub leaders will be leading this activity for Clackmannan. As usual, uniform is needed. Please complete and return the form, that was sent out, by next Wednesday. Payment should be brought to the event please.

If you do not already support the Scout and Guide Hall’s expenses, you might want to join the 50/50 club. A payment of £15 before the end of January will put you into a monthly draw for a whole year. Half the money raised goes to the upkeep of the hall, the rest is given out in prizes. More details from Eion or Lorna if required.

The Cubs and Beavers will be combining for a Halloween party on 30 October from
7-8.30pm. Fancy dress is encouraged!

All sections will be attending the Remembrance parade in Clackmannan on 10 November.

Beavers and Cubs will also combine to visit the Alloa Mosque on 13 November. Helpers are needed for this visit.

This will be held on the evening of 16 November. Beavers are invited to attend with their families. A further note will be issued nearer the time.

All sections are looking for helpers. If you can be involved on a regular basis, please let any of the leaders know. Thanks to the parents who help out on an ad-hoc basis – this allows us to give your children a varied programme of events.
